Things to do on a Cayo Coco Holiday

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008
Emma Lelliott asked:

For a relaxing holiday away from the heavily visited areas of the island, a stay in a Cayo Coco hotel is a great choice. Its lack of an international airport means that its 15 miles of beaches are largely off the radars of most tourists, making it a far more peaceful alternative to Varadero - but there’s a lot more charm to the area than that. Here are some of the things to do on a Cayo Coco holiday.

Wonderful Beaches

As Cuba’s fourth largest island, it’s no surprise that the beach is one of the highlights of a Cayo Coco holiday. The sands are snowy white and stretch off for miles (around 15 in total) and this combined with the lack of tourists means that there can be few places quite as peaceful, relaxing and perfect as Cayo Coco’s stunning sands.

Superb Diving

One of the main reason people holiday in Cayo Coco and nearby Cayo Guillermo is the diving. Because it is home to the world’s second largest coral reef, the conditions are absolutely perfect. The water is warm, with excellent visibility and the reef is teeming with interesting sea life. Amongst the fish you can expect to see are snappers, groupers, pompanos, spadefish and tarpons. There are diving schools around, so you can get up to speed and be exploring the coral reef in no time!

Exploring Unspoiled Cuba

The main sights of Cayo Coco reflect nature of the area - it’s not aimed at mainstream tourists. As such, although there are a handful of interesting attractions around, you won’t find the same number of landmarks as Havana or Santiago de Cuba. The wildlife of the island is particularly noteworthy, and it’s worth dropping off at Cayo Coco Flamingos - a reserve for some of the island’s fauna and flora. Amongst the creatures here, you’ll find grey herons, pink flamingos, pelicans and a huge variety of duck species. A local crocodile farm also gives visitors a chance to see some of the more dangerous creatures the island is home to!

Elsewhere, Laguna de Leche (Lake of Milk) is a Cuba’s largest lake, and a beautiful highlight in its own right. It gets its name for its milky colour, which is due to the underwater lime deposits.

Finally, visiting a sugar mill makes for a fascinating day trip. As one of Cuba’s biggest exports, getting an idea of the conditions where it is manufactured is fascinating, and guests can also opt for a steam train ride across the cane fields.

Entertainment at the Cayo Coco Hotels

If all of this sounds a little sparse by way of attractions (the keyword really is relaxing around here!) then you’ll be pleased to hear that the Cayo Coco hotels put on some excellent entertainment for those who are looking for an alternative to the beaches, oceans and natural beauty. The Melia Cayo Coco puts on great entertainment every night, for example and there’s also a nightclub available to guests from all the local resorts. Accompanying this, the restaurants attached to Cayo Coco’s hotels put on some excellent international cuisine.

While it doesn’t have the huge selection of historical landmarks of Havana, Cayo Coco’s sparse environment is a wonderful insight to the real rural Cuba, in all its natural glory. If you want a peaceful break away from it all with the sea and the sand as your main attraction, a holiday in Cayo Coco is well worth a look - and for divers, it’s a must.

The Important Often Forgotten Art of How Not to See Everything on a French Holiday

Monday, December 22nd, 2008
Corina Clemence asked:

So you’re going to France for your next vacation. You have picked a location, organised your travel, and booked your accommodation. That is the easy part of the “where” and the “how.” The trickiest part of planning and enjoying your holiday comes next when you need to tackle the “what” issue. That is what are you going to see and what are you going to do. Please do not even think the word “everything”.

Tourists often mistakenly schedule every hour of every day in advance to ensure they see every French chateau, abbey and vineyard. If this is your inclination our advice is don’t go. You will be as stressed as if you never left work so you might as well stay there and earn more money.

If you go with a to-do list of “famous sights,” you will come home with a lot of beautiful pictures but with no real emotional connection to where you have been. You will look photos of various chateaux and not be able to distinguish which one was which. Your holiday will be one chateau blur. You’ll have spent your entire time hurtling from one famous chateau or abbey or rather than soaking up the significance of that chateau, abbey you toured in a nanosecond.

Please do not be a speed tourist forever intent and acting possessed determined to get yet another tick in a box on their must see list. Never see more than two chateaux in a day and do not do more than three days of your vacation (ideally spaced out) chateaux hopping.

You probably selected France as your destination in order to escape the hurried pace of your normal live. So what you need to do is to slow down a bit and enjoy life at another pace. This way you can return home feeling rested and rejuvenated. Remember you are on holiday and you are not trying to set any records. Leisurely drink in the scenery and the culture and sample some of the acclaimed local wine whilst enjoying a picnic.

If you are renting a chateau or a villa, set aside some time to just hang out there and relax. Often you see groups of families who rent a chateau or a villa together busy traipsing all over the countryside ticking all of the boxes on someone’s overly optimised list of must see sites and must do activities. Some poor person got the task and wanted to make sure no one could later complain that they missed something.

Always remember most people travel to France for the experience that is unique and totally different from their everyday American English, or Antipodean existence. Find yourself a little cafe, bistro, or a pub. Sit down. Order something. Listen to the locals chatting. Talk to a stranger even if it is in Franglais. Smell that freshly baked bread. Savour that glass of wine. Relax you are on holiday.

And if you miss something important - no problem. It is the perfect excuse to come back again for another relaxing holiday another time.

Miami Holiday Apartments. Be At Home On Vacation

Sunday, December 21st, 2008
Holiday Man asked:

As a holiday getaway, Florida attracts more than its fair share of tourists. Over 1.5 million Britons, for example, traveled to Florida in 2005, a staggering number when you think that the feelings towards the US throughout Europe have not been as positive as it was before 9/11.

Florida boasts some of most beautiful beaches around notwithstanding the obvious popularity of our theme parks in and around Orlando. Miami in particular with its rich diversity of people from Latin America, the Caribbean Islands, Europe and elsewhere is a unique melting post of cultures and languages.

If you travel to Miami with your family, then you will know that staying in crammed hotels, however luxurious or fancy they might be, may not be the solution for you and your family.

Miami Vacation Apartments are an ideal alternative for you and your family. They may not provide room service although some hotels have suites that are equipped with the usual amenities provided by conventional apartments, but they provide more room for your money.

Miami Holiday Apartments come in all regular combination of sizes, number of room (from one bedroom to 3 bedrooms and sometimes even more). They are fully furnished and equipped and boast the usual kitchen, lounge and dining room available in any home.

They are truly your home away from home, and with the additional space they provide, they will also most likely enable you to save a whole bunch of money on nightly rates when compared to hotel accommodation but also savings on meals taken at home rather than hotels for example.

Families can travel and explore their holiday destination and then come home to relax and rest in the privacy of their own bedrooms.

One last thing to consider when searching for a holiday apartments is that they are also called Vacation Condos, Miami Holiday Accommodation or even Vacation Apartments.

Miami Holiday Apartments: Don’t travel without them!

Prignano Cilento: Come Here To Experience The Most Relaxing Holiday You Can Live

Saturday, December 13th, 2008
Ettore Panella asked:

Do you usually prefer going to sea or mountain? Surely, the choice is not an easy task and in many Italian but also foreign families there are often “terrible and prolonged fights” to choose the ideal holiday that will succeed in satisfying everyone, in every way. Usually children prefer going to sea, while adults usually prefer to experience the relaxing atmosphere they can find on the mild hills. Finding a common and happy agreement can be a very difficult experience. But, be sure, if you choose Prignano Cilento, you will certainly satisfy the needs of everyone.

You will discover that Prignano Cilento really offers everything for everyone: tasty gastronomy, wonderful nature and a mild climate. The position is strategic: Prignano is only 9 km far from the wonderful sea and from the beautiful wide and sandy beaches of Agropoli and just 11 km far from the interesting archaeological area of Paestum, with its terrific ancient temples, perfectly preserved. Prignano Cilento is situated on a hill, 424 m above the sea level, and so the climate is perfect during the hot summer. You will enjoy a mild climate that will never know the hottest temperatures of summer days.

If you love nature, you have to come to Prignano, in the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano because you will surely have several different opportunities to make unforgettable and beautiful excursions. You will also have the possibility to visit the wonderful oasis of Alento River with its three different natural habitats: the river with its forest and the artificial lake; the reed thicket area; and the Mediterranean bush.

The wonderful and charming nature is still uncontaminated and visitors will also have the possibility to meet rare animals, such as the otter. You can also practise bird-watching, if you want.

Children will find a perfectly equipped area with games and tables for picnics; you can also practise trekking, you can go fishing or you can ride horses or mountain bikes, etc.

The typical gastronomy is rich and it is made of the tasty and delicious traditional recipes and dishes of Cilento. Typical products are actually delicious and attract all tourists that love eating well.

In Prignano Cilento during the long and hot Italian summer there are many nice and interesting events that attract many tourists and people coming from the surrounding areas, to promote all the treasures of this small but beautiful town. On 26th and 27th July and on 7th/8th and 9th August the local gastronomy and typical products will be the main protagonists of summer: “fusilli” and “Cavatelli”, fried pizza, olive oil, wine, vegetables; you will surely find and appreciate many different tasty and special dishes. Prignano Cilento is part of an Italian association that unites all Italian towns producing wines having DOC (Denomination of Controlled Origin) mark.

These events will offer to visitors and participants also good music, traditional dances, typical handicraft products, and organic products.

Spain: The Perfect Holiday Destination

Saturday, December 13th, 2008
Michael Lee asked:

Travelers choose to take a holiday in Spain for many reasons. Some of the most beautiful vistas on Earth are found in Spain, and the country also contains some of the greatest party locations in Europe. Whether seeking solitude or nightlife, Spain has a lot to offer.

For the casual vacationer who wants to get an overview of Spain, take a trip to both the coast and one of the World Heritage Sites of the country. Ibiza, party capital of the world, is both of these things. Ibiza is one of the fifty Balearic Islands, and it has both an interesting history and exciting future. The nightlife of the area is centered on the south and the west of the island. Ibiza is known as the island paradise of the electronic music scene. It can get pretty rambunctious, but if you’re up to it, Ibiza offers some of the best nightlife in the world. Of course, if you’re not in the mood to visit the “Gomorrah of the Med,” Ibiza probably isn’t the place for you.

There are many other places in Spain to enjoy a more relaxed holiday. Many of the coastal areas feature gorgeous beaches and high-quality resorts, with shopping and dining within walking distance. If you’re looking for a relaxing view of the scenery, try one of the coastal areas, many of which have great resort communities tailored to vacationers looking for rest and relaxation.

La Manga del Mar Menor is a popular resort area on the southeast coast of the country. Not to be confused with the sports resort of the same name, La Manga is a strip of land that separates the Mediterranean Sea from the Mar Menor. Though La Manga has areas popular with young tourists, particularly the Zoco area, it is very friendly toward visitors of all ages. The Mar Menor translates to the “Little Sea” in English. Looking at it from the land, the small body of water looks like a small lake. In fact, the sea is only eight meters deep. Many holiday travelers pick this region because of its peacefulness and beauty.

The city of Seville features some of the country’s most glorious architecture. Over two-thousand years old, Seville contains a beautiful cathedral, one of the largest of the gothic cathedrals. It was built on the site of the city’s mosque, and it even incorporates columns from the ancient mosque into the design. The tower of the cathedral uses ramps instead of stairs so that horses could be ridden to the top. Many of the surrounding buildings are also built from the old Moorish sites. Also of note is the University of Sevilla, which is on the site of the first tobacco factory in Europe.

Whether you’re looking for the excitement and nightlife or the beauty and relaxation of Spain, it’s easy to find them both. Many areas offer great shopping at affordable prices, as well as some of the finest resorts Europe has to offer. The wide variety of vistas, entertainment and culture in Spain make it the perfect choice for a vacation destination.

Happy Holidays - 5 Do’s and Don’ts to Stay Productive During the Holidays

Thursday, December 11th, 2008
Quang Van asked:

The do’s and don’t of the holidays.

Happy Holidays everyone, I hope you all have a nice Thanksgiving, I know I sure did.

These are the do’s and don’t of Thanksgiving.

5 Things not to Do.

1. Drink too much. Don’t be drinking and getting real drunk. You will regret it. It will make you sick, lower your immune system and give you a week or at least a few days of feeling bad.

2. Don’t eat too much. As Anthony Robbins calls it, “Eating a Big Butt Meal”. This is similar to drinking. Your body will use more energy try to digest the food, leaving your immune system in shock and un able to defend itself.

3. Don’t do anything stupid. You might be a little drunk, but you are still in control. Don’t do anything stupid, like jumping off staircases… you can hurt your back or cut your hand doing this.

4. Don’t stay up late at night, by yourself. This is suppose to be the time to gather with family and friends. If you are staying up late at night by yourself, then something is wrong. You should be resting.

5. Don’t shop on Black Friday. Black Friday is the day right after Thanksgiving, the biggest shopping day of the year. Sure, you could get some good sales, but at what cost? It’s a chaotic day where people literally run over each other in a frantic shopping zombie type zone… you will not be relaxed in this type of atmosphere.

The 5 Things You Should Do

1. Spend time with family and friends. Times like these when everyone is back home, and all gather is the perfect time to catch up with good friends and family members. Remember the important things in life.

2. Stay healthy as much as possible. Stay healthy as much as you can. Try not to drink too much, eat too much or sleep to little.

3. Be defensive when it comes to your health. Take vitamin C, drink a lot of water, try out “Airborne” to boost your immune system.

4. Leave your work at work. Do not think or focus on your work when you are spending time with your family and friends. Leave the work at work. Especially don’t try to “catch up” on some work during the holiday weekends.

5. Have fun and relax. Holidays should be good times. Make sure you relax, and plan to have a good time. This is what life is all about.

Renting a Holiday Home In Menorca

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008
Andrew Gibson asked:

Menorca is regarded as one of the best destinations for sunshine, beautiful beaches and a relaxing family holiday. Many tourists regard it as the perfect island for holiday makers going on vacation staying in holiday homes. It is a beautiful island with superb sandy beaches and home to some of the best holiday villas in Europe.

The island is very popular with families going on vacation staying in holiday cottages or holiday villas. It is also a romantic holiday destination with couples going on a relaxing holiday to the island with many staying in self catering apartments.

Menorca lies in the north of Spain’s Balearic Islands and is the group’s second largest and most unspoilt holiday island. The island has some beautiful beaches and quiet coves. Many of the beaches have beautiful holiday villas with swimming pools close by. Son Bou, Punta Prima, Arenal d’en Castell and Cala Galdana boast beautiful sweeps of sand, while the small coves of Ciudadela and Binibeca offer more tranquil sunbathing.

Lovers of sun and more traditional holidays may rent one of the fabulous villas in Binibeca which is located to the south of the island. For holiday makers looking for a more active holiday, they may rent self catering apartments in Playas de Fornells in the north of this beautiful holiday island.

The north of the island is home to Menorca’s only golf course at Son Parc. It is popular with tourists on a family holiday with many staying in a holiday villa. It is ideal as the golf course is located just a few minutes away from some of the islands best beaches. Port Addaya is home to some quaint holiday cottages and is an ideal destination for families looking for a quiet relaxing holiday.

To the east of Menorca lies the capital of Mahon. This is a stylish destination full of good restaurants and shops. There are many self catering apartments available to rent in Mahon.

Menorca has a Mediterranean climate, and averages 315 days of sunshine a year. The average summer temperature is around 30 degrees, although this often rises in the middle of August. Winters in Minorca are mild and often sunny, but the high humidity and strong winds that come down through France can make it feel rather cold and damp.

Families return to Menorca year after year staying in holiday homes. They are drawn back by the charm of the island and the friendly locals. It is an island that has not been spoilt by tourism and offers a great family holiday. There is a tremendous choice of holiday home rentals to choose from with some beautiful villas and holiday cottages.
