When most of us holiday it is too easy to stay in the major tourist destinations taking in the sights and sounds; however it is essential that as holidaymakers we should take the time to sample the culture. This is why it is advisable to get the most from a country to head to rural localities, by doing this you can sample the country way of life. Staying in a rural hotel is also cheaper than staying in the city meaning that your trip will be more affordable, allowing you to spend money on the finer things in life like eating and drinking out.

However, holidaymakers should consider whether they want to spend their entire vacation cooped up in a city hotel surrounded by the hustle and bustle? A far more preferable and relaxing holiday can be had in the country, allowing tourists to sample the true culture of the nation, away from tourist hotspots. The countryside normally has its own culture, completely distinct from that of a city. While cities are places of business and trade, the countryside often lives to a slower way of life, ensuring relaxation and rejuvenation.
Cities are often filled with modern, purpose built hotels that while being comfortable hold no real charm or character. In the country it is normally possible to find the opposite, for instance in England there are many fine aged inns that simply ooze history and are a far more interesting place to stay. These modern hotels could be anywhere in the world, a hotel with heritage however is a good representation of the national identity, as well as being a great base to explore, enjoy excellent national cuisine and of course become familiar with local residents.
This is not purely true in England but is evident all over the world, whether this is Brittany, Tuscany or even Bavaria; there are always locally run hotels that provide the guest with exemplary accommodation and a friendly service. Tuscany is an especial case in point where a country hotel is more advisable than a city variant. The major city within Tuscany, Florence is such a tourist hotspot that during peak times the city’s population almost triples, this is despite the fact that the majority of residents up sticks during these months. In this case it is advisable to do as the locals do and head into the countryside to avoid the crowds.
Those heading on a romantic break should strongly consider staying in a rural hotel. While city breaks can be romantic, they can also be stressful; the countryside on the other hand is pleasurable and relaxing, meaning that both members of the couple can enjoy spending time together. It is even possible to find a hotel that specialises in romantic trips, offering services such as breakfast in bed and champagne on arrival. Personally, although I may be considered a country boy at heart, the countryside is a far preferable destination anyway.
